Getting
Around The 307 main
highway is in excellent condition and most attractions can be
reached within one hour. In addition to rental cars, taxis, and

There are more than 70 named dive sites along the Mayan Barrier Reef
and over 200 miles of cenotes (limestone caves and underground

staff.

Visitor Information for Mexico:
PORTS OF ENTRY The Cancun International Airport
is by far the most popular point of entry, though Cozumel also has
an international airport. Yachts are welcome at various ports, and
should check with the Harbor Master for port fees, immigration and
customs. Puerto Aventuras has a Harbor Master and provides splendid
marina facilities.
ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS All visitors must have proof of
citizenship (valid passport or birth certificate and photo ID).
European visitors must also have a visa. Visa extensions can be
applied for at immigration office in Playa del
Carmen.
ANIMALS Only cats and dogs are
allowed entry along with a recent veterinarian health certificate.
Limit: 2 pets per visitor.
DEPARTURE
TAX International departure tax from the Cancun
airport is about $40 usd., and must be paid in cash. Most air
tickets include this tax.
LANGUAGE Spanish is the national
language. English, German and Italian are widely spoken within the
tourism trade. Many local residents also speak Mayan.
CLOTHING Lightweight clothing,
swimwear, sunglasses, hat, sandals, and comfortable walking shoes
will do all year round. A light jacket or sweater is useful on
winter nights. Biodegradable sunscreen is preferred and insect
repellent is helpful.
CURRENCY
& CREDIT CARDS The exchange rate
at present is fluctuating between $9.10 and $9.40 pesos per US
dollar. Most purchases can be made with pesos, dollars, traveler's
checks or major credit card. Currency can be exchanged at banks,
"Casas de Cambio", or hotels. ATM's are available for international
cash withdrawal. |
